Our History

Good Foods Grocery came about in 1985 and in 2023 found a new home with the non-profit Commonwealth Autism. They aim to promote an environment that allows for inclusivity and support within our community and Good Foods Grocery wants that for Richmond too.

They have created a workforce development program that supports autistic individuals. This program lets those on the spectrum have specialized employment training and continued employment support.

Good Foods Grocery started in Richmond as a way to support our community by offering people the freshest food and highest quality products that would allow them to be the best version of themselves.

Now almost 40 years after opening in the neighborhood we have found a new partner to help us with our goals. Commonwealth Autism bought the store to pioneer a new career program for those on the spectrum. All of us together are still committed as ever to creating an environment where customers feel confident in their purchases. Our customers know that our products are natural, nutrient-rich, organic and local whenever possible.

You support your community with what you buy. And not only do we stock local, we ARE your local grocery store!

When someone walks through the beautiful glass doors of Good Foods Grocery, they don’t just find a place to buy things. They find a place where local farms, natural products, and trusted national brands come together to improve their life.
